SAVINJA VALLEY MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR - 7 DAYS

Day 1: ARRIVAL TO SLOVENIA AND ACCOMMODATION AT BIKE HOTEL GROF

Arrival to Slovenia (possible transport from Ljubljana or other airports) to the Hotel GROF, your cycling holiday stay. Accommodation in modern and comfortable rooms. Overnight stay.

Day 2: VELIKA PLANINA - CYCLE ON THE TRAILS OF THE LARGEST SHEPHERDS' SETTLEMENT IN EUROPE

Breakfast at the Hotel. Time to prepare yourself for the first ride. Our comfortable van will take you to the famous Alpine mountain village - Luče. We start the climb along the Lučnica river in the direction of Podveža and Podvolovjek. Asphalt road leads us to the church of the St. Anton Puščavnik in Podvolovjek, which was first mentioned in 1526. We continue towards the Volovjek pass, a natural border between Štajerska and Gorenjska region. We turn right at the pass and continue along the gravel road to Domžalski dom mountain hut, where a beautiful view of the karst high plateau Velika planina opens up in front of us. Cart tracks and single trails lead us towards the chapel of Marija Snežna and the Veternica cave. We complete the circular path at the Volovjek pass, followed by the descent towards Luče. From Luče back to Hotel Grof with our shuttle. Leisure time to relax and overnight stay.

Day 3: OJSTRICA - CIRCULAR ROUTE THROUGH THE COUNT'S WINE VALLEY

Breakfast at the Hotel. Side asphalt roads lead us through Tabor towards Loke where we start our climb on a gravel road and past the old Ojstrica Castle ruins. We follow white and blue cycling signs and continue cycling around Krvavica. From Vrhe we descend towards Podmeja, but shortly after turn left towards Miklavž nad Taborom. Final descent on the asphalt road with a view of Kamnik-Savinja Alps leads you to Lisjak Pond and all the way back to Tabor. After return, some leisure time to rest and refreshment. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 4: MENINA PLATEAU

Breakfast at the Hotel. To warm up we cycle through Vransko and on asphalt road ascend over the Lipa pass. Just before the end of the descent towards Šmartno ob Dreti, near a larger farm, we turn left onto a macadam road that winds along the slope of the Menina planina plateau. After a few kilometers, we follow the road that leads from Bočna to Menina planina plateau. A scenic gravel road leads us across a long plateau of Menina planina all the way to Biba planina. When the road makes a long sharp turn to the right, we turn left onto a steep cart track between pastures. After 3 km of downhill we join the road towards Slopa saddle. Afterwards we follow the path to Jeseničnik where a beautiful view of the valley opens up. After a short ascent we arrive at Lipa pass. We finish our route with a descent towards Vransko and all the way to Hotel Grof. Overnight stay.

Day 5: GOLTE AND SMREKOVEC

Breakfast at the Hotel. Our comfortable van will take you to Mozirje and the bottom of Golte resort cable car which is easily accessible by the longest cable car in Slovenia. Cable car ride (payment at the spot) lasts 8 minutes and takes you 1.000 vertical meters higher to the altitude of 1410 meters above sea level where we start our tour. We cycle up and down along beautiful pastures and meadows with scenic views towards Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Not long after we arrive at Smrekovec which is famous for its vulcanic rock. We can take a break at Dom na Smrekovcu Hut. We complete our tour at Golte with an option of a long descent all the way to the bottom of Golte cable car. Our shuttle will take you back to Hotel Grof. Leisure time to relax and overnight stay.

Day 6: SOLČAVA PANORAMIC ROAD AND LOGAR VALLEY

Breakfast at the Hotel. Our most scenic tour will take you to the heart of Upper Savinja Valley - Logar Valley, and Solčava Panoramic Road – the route with the most beautiful views of Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Our comfortable van will take you all the way to Solčava - starting and end point of our tour. Solčava Panoramic Road is unique in its beauty, taking you along the pearls of the natural and cultural heritage of the Solčava Region, with breathtaking views of the peaks and valleys and past subsistence highland farms, producing everything nature offers and man creates with love. The route can be selected based on your means of transport and the available time. The route consists of twenty unforgettable stops across a large portion of the region, which also includes the Logar Valley, Robanov kot, Matkov kot, and Podolševa. At the end of the tour our shuttle will take you back to the Hotel. We recommend some leisure time or a massage. Overnight stay.

Breakfast at the Hotel Grof. Time to say goodbye to our great hosts. Organized transfers to the airport or individual departures.

You are a family with small children who can already cycle on their own. You cycle mostly on a plain with short gentle inclines.

You are a family with young children, who cycle on diverse terrain with small climbs and descents.

 Criteria for road cycling

Easy

You are in a poor shape and cycle up to twice a week. You cycle on slightly diverse terrain with smaller climbs and descents.

Normal

You are in a moderate shape and exercise more than 3x weekly. You cycle on hilly terrain with medium length climbs and descents.

Hard

You are in a good shape and exercise regularly. You cycle on a hilly terrain and can spend multiple hours on a bicycle.

Expert

You are in an excellent shape and spend a lot of time exercising. You cycle on a hilly terrain with steep inclines and descents.
