On the trails of the largest shepherd's settlement in Europe

For this mountain biking experience, we will first take you in our van to the Črnivec pass, located at 902 meters above sea level. There, your cycling tour begins on one of the most beautiful plateaus in Slovenia - Velika Planina.

You start the tour on a gravel road that leads around Kašna planina. This part of the trail offers beautiful views of Menina planina, Veliki Rogatec, Lepenatka, and the wider Kamnik-Savinja Alps. After about six kilometers of moderate ascent, winding through forests and pastures, you reach the Volovljek pass (1029 m), also known as Kranjski Rak - an ancient gateway between Styria and Gorenjska. At Volovljek, you connect to an asphalt road, which, after a few kilometers, brings you back to the gravel road, along which you climb to Domžale dom. There, you will be greeted by an unforgettable view of the vast karst high-altitude plateau - Velika planina. Its soft, undulating landscape, scattered shepherd's huts, and mountain peace create a special, difficult atmosphere- it must be experienced.

From Domžale Lodge, cart paths and single-track roads lead you towards the Chapel of Marija Snežna and the Veternica Cave. This part of the tour is a bit more varied and technically diverse, but not too demanding, so it is also suitable for those with less experience in mountain biking who want to experience something more than just riding on the road.

The tour ends circularly, as you descend from the mountain towards the Črnivec pass, where a van and transport back await you. The tour offers a wonderful combination of mountain views, cultural heritage and genuine contact with nature - an ideal choice for active families or individuals who want to spend the day a little higher up, in the fresh mountain air.
