Čreta and Western Dobrovlje

Starting at Hotel Grof, the flat part of the route leads through the town of Prekopa where you can visit an interesting Fire Brigade Collection at the local fire station. At the Church of St. Martin in Podvrh we turn left and start ascending towards Čreta. We continue ascending and cycling on the gravel road when the view of Žovnek Castle, Lake Žovnek and the whole Lower Savinja Valley opens up. The route leads us past Partisan monuments, burned homestead from NOB (National Liberation), all the way to the top of Čreta. A forest path leads to the Church of Holy Mother of God at Čreta. On the top the view towards plateau, St. Catherine's Church and Zakrajšek's homestead opens up in front of us. We start descending at St. Catherine's Church. At the first intersection, we turn right and continue in the direction of Šentjoški vrh. Gravel road and cart tracks lead us past smaller farms and through the forest to the Church of St. Jodocus where a beautiful view of the Lower Savinja Valley, surrounding hills, and the Church of St. Gervasius up on the right opens up. If the route has been fairly easy so far, we have to be a bit more cautious on the descent towards Lipa pass as the path leads us along a slightly steeper mountain forest path. At the Lipa pass we turn left and descend back to Vransko.
