Lipovec and Biba planina
This diverse mountain biking tour takes you from the valley into the embrace of forests, across scenic mountain passes and peaceful alpine pastures, where nature and tranquility blend into a truly immersive experience. The tour starts at Hotel Grof in Prebold, from where you head along local roads through the village of Tabor and continue toward Trojane.
The climb to Trojane is steady but rewarding, offering beautiful views of the surrounding wooded hills. Trojane is a great place for a short break – perhaps even a taste of their famous doughnuts – before continuing toward Zgornji Tuhinj. This part of the route takes you through varied terrain, on a mix of paved and gravel roads, where traffic gradually disappears and nature becomes wilder and more pristine. From Zgornji Tuhinj, the real mountain ascent begins toward the Biba Planina mountain hut, situated just above 1,000 meters above sea level. This section mostly follows forest roads, with a few technically interesting segments, but nothing overly demanding. Once you reach the hut, you're rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding peaks and pastures, with Lipovec, Menina Planina, and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps forming a majestic backdrop. It’s the perfect place for a longer break, a snack, or simply soaking in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
After your rest, the descent begins through the village of Brdo, where the road first winds through forest, then opens up with views of the Lower Savinja Valley. The descent is smooth but varied enough to stay engaging. You continue past Vranja Peč, through the village of Vransko, and finish the loop on flatter terrain back at Hotel Grof.
The tour is suitable for well-prepared recreational cyclists looking for a full-day mountain adventure, combining asphalt and gravel roads, impressive views, and the feeling of truly being “out there.” It includes some steep ascents and descents that require good fitness and control.
