Along the Mura River and up and down the hills, past fragrant vineyards embraced by the sun. From the most beautiful viewpoint to the oldest vineyard plantation. Discover Radgonske gorice in a whole new way.
Meeting point at Grof at the agreed time. Coffee and croissant, and filling up water bottles.
We will then load the bikes onto the bike trailer and drive by van to Gornja Radgona, where we will begin cycling.
The Mura River separates the fair town of Gornja Radgona from the picturesque Austrian town of Bad Radkersburg with its popular thermal spa. Gornja Radgona is the town of sparkling wines, so the circular cycling route begins and ends in the Radgonske gorice at the House of Sparkling Wine.
We will cycle along the Mura River and make a few short stops by the river. We will have the chance to taste natural mineral water directly from a living spring. The mineral waters from the Radenci area are classified as magnesium-calcium-iron hydrogen carbonate springs and are officially recognized as healing water. We will also ride through the spa settlement, where since 1882 they have been using this natural mineral water to treat heart and vascular diseases.
The route continues through Radenci to Kapelski Vrh, where there is a beautiful view of the vineyards and surrounding hills, and the Kapela wine fountain. We will stop for wine tasting and a sampling of local delicacies.
After a pleasant ride along nearby ridges, we will refresh ourselves with authentic mineral water from the Ivanjševci spring and discover “slepice” – a rare natural feature hidden in the forest.
A short climb to Negova Castle will take us briefly back in time, and afterwards we will cycle through numerous vineyards and the collection vineyard of Radgonske gorice. On these hills, in 1852, the first Slovenian sparkling wine was born – today known as Zlata radgonska penina. We will also see vineyards that produce grapes for the special sparkling wine “Untouched by Light” – the first sparkling wine in the world produced in complete darkness.
Return to Gornja Radgona and lunch with wine tasting at RG Bistro. After a pleasant meal, we will visit the House of Sparkling Wine and the wine cellars of Radgonske gorice. Some of the cellars you can see here are over 250 years old. They are part of local tradition and represent something unique in the Slovenian wine landscape – these cellars are a rare karst phenomenon in the Štajerska region.
Return to Grof in the late afternoon.
