Ponds and Hops
The tour starts at Hotel Grof, from where you head out along quiet local roads through Prekopa towards the picturesque Žovnek Lake, where a short stop by the water awaits you. The route then leads through Breslovče and Male Braslovče, opening up views of the Savinja Valley. You continue through Parižlje, Kamenče, and Gomilsko, and then pass Ojstriška Vas before returning to Hotel Grof. The entire route runs mostly over flat terrain, suitable for relaxed cycling and enjoying the scenery.
Highlights
Žovnek Lake – An artificial lake created by damming, popular among anglers and walkers; in calm weather, it offers beautiful reflections of the surrounding hills.
Žovnek Castle (ruins) – Above the lake stand the ruins of a 12th-century castle, once the seat of the Counts of Žovnek, ancestors of the Counts of Celje.
Village Center of Male Braslovče – A typical Savinja Valley village with well-preserved rural architecture.
Church of St. James in Gomilsko – A Baroque church with beautifully painted interiors and an impressive bell tower.
Savinja River – When crossing it at Parižlje and Kamenče, you can enjoy views of the calm river flow and meadows characteristic of the Savinja Valley.
